Whenever a person dies their soul will be sent to the underworld where they will meet this courteous, multiple-limbed gentleman. He will present them with a white rose each and they must undergo a series of trials based on their past lives, which they must complete before the last petal falls. To those who succeed they are reincarnated into the living world with another chance at life. However should one fail, he or she will remain a permanent resident of the underworld as a hideously deformed creature of whom this man shall be their master.

To those who think he looks familiar, well, he's actually based off my grim reaper concept from a year ago but I decided as I was painting this that I'd change his back story to something that fits his appearance. Why did I decide to draw him again? Well, I'm using him for a contest where I had to submit an original character illustration but I went with a special category where I also had to include a tutorial on how I went about it.

Am I allowed to drool?

I think I like this version better though; although in either I'd like to see his movements with the whole six arm thing. Seems like he'd be very fluid and such, which could be interesting having to coordinate all those hands.

It looks really cool. And I like it better than the grim reaper concept. Why does he have 6 arms, though?

Glad you like the new and improved version :D The real reason why he has six arms was because I needed more hands to hold the many different items to symbolize vanity/ death (this was from the original concept). Aesthetically I thought they worked really well in conveying more of his personality so I decided to maintain the number of arms. Also since this time the concept involves reincarnation I could go with saying that his design was inspired by the Buddha. There are quite a number of reasons but telling all of them would be spoiling it ;)
