This took a lot longer than it should’ve. A little over a week in fact and I’m still not entirely happy with it - especially the background - but enough is enough. However, I did enjoy working on the Wolf Predator. You can probably tell I took a couple of liberties with his design. For example his movie counterpart doesn’t have a shoulder guard and fishnet covering his right arm. Neither did he have a human skull trophy hanging by his waist, but I wanted him to have one just for the heck of it. Even the slain Alien/Xenomorph’s head dome is not movie accurate, because I favour Giger’s original biomech design - it’s sexier.

Numerous references were used to paint this, including my own Predator and Alien action figures. For the lighting in the tunnels I actually had to study up on how light works in this kind of environment with so much blasted water around. Even learned a little chemistry along the way. Much inspiration came from the works of Narin and Joe Dunaway. They make amazingly detailed Predator maquettes, which I’ll probably never get to own. Meh.

So, hope all you AVP:Requiem fans like. Just for the record, though: the movie sucked XD

UPDATE: As a thank you gesture for the DD I present to you a comprehensive walkthru of this painting. WARNING: Lots of reading ahead.

UPDATE 2: You can also view a better walkthrough of this with bigger images on Digital Art Secrets here.

The Cleaner by ~Wulfsbane. From the suggester: "Okay... he might be a great friend and maybe that makes me partial, but you can't deny the killer work he's putting out. Frankly, he's making me nervous! 'The Cleaner' knocks my socks off and leaves me wondering, how in the world is he doing this?" His pieces are incredible and this one is no different, full view to enjoy properly! ( Suggested by ~Gatling and Featured by $aunjuli )

Lovely detail, notably, the drone. And I couldn't agree more about the movie... The only reason I actually watched it was because I wanted to see what they were going to do to disgrace the Yautja (again).

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

Not for glory. Not for honour. Not for the hunt. But to clean up the mess.

Great pic!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get the light effect for the helmet target.?

I can't remember exactly, but I basically used the lasso tool to keep the gradients confined within the shapes of the ray, blurred it afterwards so the edges don't look too sharp, repeated the process a couple of times, overlapping in new layers while decreasing the ray's size as the close in on the source/center. Then played around with the layer opacity and properties (dodge, screen, overlay) until the whole thing looks as close to a screenshot from AVP that I used as a reference. Particularly this one. Though looking back at it now I think I could've done a better job (I'm a few rays short lol).
